Rayyan Merchant
Computational Linguist
I graduated from the University of Florida in 2023 with degrees in Linguistics and Computer Science. My current research interests generally revolve around utilizing NLP/computational linguistics for social good, with a focus on low-resource languages such as (Tajik) Persian. My main research project investigates machine transliteration between Persian written in the Perso-Arabic script and the Tajik-Cyrillic script. Most recently, I just returned from a year abroad in Germany with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals program. During this time, I worked on research projects at the Hochschule Hannover as well as in the Speech, Lexicon, and Modeling (SLaM) laboratory at Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf.
